Identity and Immersive Tech in Education
Immersive experiences are making their way into learning culture and the education space. Early conversations with educators revealed that “Students are more visually literate than before and we [ Educators ] have to up our game to be able to engage them.” As a former ESL teacher I found myself wondering how AR/VR can bring value, not just novelty, to the physical classroom space. Could MR experiences be used to incorporate visual storytelling or even eventually explore intersectional identities? And ultimately what does this mean for how we teach a diverse population in an increasingly culturally interwoven world? This talk investigates the role of AR/VR to enhance the education experience. I will cover how the team worked together in a 6 week cycle to do research and create content and how we built a useful, engaging experience for both teachers and learners.
